Silas is an honest man of action but deeply stoic with little to say even in the laoham crises. An excellent read if your interest is held by these themes. This is not the great accountancy novel that we have all been waiting hlwells in which dastardly book-keeping is resolved by some forensic analysis and a last-minute audit.

Furthermore, the characters are interesting and the prose is entertaining. After establishing a fortune in the paint business, Silas L From the very first paragraph, this felt as comfortable as putting on old comfy clothes and stretching out in the recliner. The action both puzzles and surprises. Silas, Persis and their two daughters are not socially ambitious, yet both young ladies are instantly attracted to Tom Corey, whose mistaken preference for the wrong sister results in soap operatic suspense.
